Static IP Solution

There a several reasons to have a static IP on your home or business network ranging from hosting a web site or FTP site, Remote Desktop, or sharing files over a WAN. The list is endless. Many times, having a static IP address for your network could be cost prohibitive. Several ISP's require that you have Business Class Internet service to even qualify. This may leave you looking for alternative options.

Good News. You do have options. Dynamic DNS or dyndns is your answer. You can find Dyndns at www.dyndns.com. To quote Dyndns; "From its inception, DynDNS.com has grown its service offerings through flexible and innovative uses of technology. By beginning with a non-commercial focus, DynDNS.com has learned to derive the maximum value of technology." In other words, great bang for your buck! Most routers support DDNS. I used the Linksys WRT320n and like most Linksys routers it supports DDNS and works like a champ. I have included a short video showing how to set up your Dyndns service.
